Cambridge TEC - Level 3 ICT

And it's all shiny, as we Firefly fans will know. This is how the new Level 3 course will pan out from September 2012. Just as with Level 2 Cambridge Nationals, there is now a Distinction* grade for the high-flyers. The course is assessed by coursework, portfolio evidence. There is more flexibility for students here - but you'll need your thinking head on for this one... read it slowly, twice, then ask any questions...

There are two compulsory Units:

Communication and Employability Skills for IT. (Board info HERE)

Serious downer for a title, but compulsory Units don't have to sell themselves! In this Unit you need to understand the personal attributes valued by employers, the principles of effective communication -and be able to use ICT kit to do this - and create and follow a personal development plan. Look at it people, nowadays a career lasts 5 years if you're lucky. Here you develop the skills to build on each opportunity, rather than be a pinball.

Unit 1 and 3 (just a couple) hints HERE and an introductory presentation HERE (don't say I never give you anything!)

Information Systems (Board info HERE)

Ok here you're looking at information in businesses and organisations. How is information used? What are the issues related to that (check out @Angelsoft_ICT on Twitter for my many rants on THAT topic!)? How do information systems work, and what are their features? Use ICT tools to produce management information.

The others are options: you need to complete the full range of agreed options to achieve this. Pretty obviously some of these Units will be out of reach for many students, so you will need to think realistically about what may be achieved in the time available. I'd like to climb the Eiger, but I suspect my love of Kurt Geiger shoes might slow my progress, so I don't try. Introductory presentation HERE for this one.

Resources

Each of the Units has individual resources - many are on slideshare.net (look for angelsoft) and others are here. Lesson resources in presentation format tend to hit slideshare, while the more static stuff sits here, where you can download it easily.

Other useful stuff: well there's the progress tracker HERE and a Rules of Combination (ROC) guide HERE to help you decide what (and how many) you should do...

Any questions - as always, just get in touch! use @Angelsoft_ICT or the link below...

NOTE!!!

This site is designed to support you in your studies, not to be a stand-in for poor attendance. Make sure you check what happened if you must miss a lesson.

You should have a list of the deadlines for your course given to you at the beginning of the course. Make sure that you keep it somewhere safe - but somewhere you can refer to every week to make sure you stay on schedule. If you start to slip - TELL YOUR TEACHER!!!.
